Story Styling Co-Director
Spring 2020
After my involvement with TREND Magazine at Iowa State my first semester, I knew I still wanted to be a part of TREND magazine. But this time, I wanted to be more involved. So, I applied and interviewed to be on the executive team for TREND issue 28. After the application process I was chosen to be the Co-Director of Story Styling. I, along with my co-directors, ran meetings, kept our committee members informed, worked on public speaking, and put together 6 photoshoots. Unfortunately, because of the coronavirus, our shoot was postponed to August 2020.

After my first time being a Story Styling Director, I fell in love with the committee. So, I decided to do it again! The Story Styling committee takes the stories written by the editorial team and conceptualizes them into visual art through photoshoots. This was the year of covid. So, beyond all the other struggles of planning seven photoshoots, we had to learn how to complete everything in a safe way.

My first semester at Iowa State I knew I wanted to be a part of Trend Magazine. So, I went to my first meeting and blindly chose the Online Committee. Along with the 2 physical magazines that are printed at the end of each semester, TREND also publishes a monthly online issue. So, the online committee came up with a direction of the online monthly issue. We then shared those ideas with the editorial staff, and they wrote stories based on our direction and theme. From there, we designed photoshoots to bring the word to life. Through that, I was able to get very hands on. I helped choose clothing, theme, and overall looks of each photoshoot.

At the TREND magazine release party, each committee’s directors chose an ‘Outstanding Committee Member.’ Because of the hard work and dedication I had to my committee, I was given that award. I was truly honored and overjoyed to be rewarded for my hard work on something I enjoyed so much.
